Carved into the rock face directly above the water, the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso is a medieval monastery suspended between sky and lake — one of the most unusual and memorable sites on the Lombard shore.

Arrive by boat and dock at the dedicated pier, or descend the panoramic staircase from the car park above.

Either way, the view alone makes it worth the detour.
